    Description

    HER MAJESTY’S SHIP
A very rare piece of maritime history, the solid mahogany, gold leafed honors board from the British Royal Navy HMS Watchful. This wood steam gunboat was launched in 1856 to partake in the Crimean War (1853-1856) but was too late to do service. Therefore it sailed to China for the Second Opium War (1856-1860). It was built by the T & W Smith shipyard of North Shields and was a 3 gaff rigged mast steam engine gunboat. It had one 68-pounder and one 32-pounder cannons. It ended up being sold in Hong Kong in 1873. The honors board is made of mahogany with gold lettering. It's 36" long, 11" high, and 1.25" thick, and is fitted out for hanging. There is a small piece of the scroll broken of of the right/bottom. We have found a photo of the ship , the historic photo is included with this item . Thank you for looking.
